b) 178 Vietnamese who had formerly been settled in China arrived during this quarter, bringing the total in this category remaining in HK to 3,204.
c) Refugees have become more forthcoming in
responding to resettlement offers limited though these now are as at 31.10.81, 46 cases were dealt with by IMM under the Immigration (Vietnamese Refugee Centres) (Open Centre) Rules. 12 refugees were ordered to be detained for refusal of resett- lement offer under the Immigration (Amendment) Ordinance 1981. d) All refugees arriving in small boats are detained
at JRC to facilitate processing their cases for the US resettlement programme. Those who fail to meet the US criteria are transferred to open camps whilst those who qualify will wait at JRC for the next available US language training and cultural orientation course (IESL).
e) The US IESL course at ARG 4 has been running
satisfactorily. By the end of October, 10,951 refugees have completed the course whilst 1,705 are presently on the course. Notification has been received that this course will start in December 1981. Thereafter all refugees selected for the USA will be transited through Bataan for English language studies.
Next Quarter's Target

to accept the repatriation of the remaining Ex-China cases still in Hong Kong.
