Purpose
To implement details of the scheme to provide for compensation to employees suffering from silicosis and asbestosis
To implement the remaining recommendations of the Working Party on the Review of the Workmen's Compensation Ordinance regarding compulsory insurance, establishment of a two-tier compensation board and measures. to expedite the processing of claims.

industrial undertakings.
To introduce a set of regulations dealing with fire safety precautions in
industrial undertakings to replace part of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Regulations.

Present Position
The Ordinance and both sets of regulations came into full operation on 1 January 1981.
Drafting approval for an amending Bill was given by the Secretary for Social Serivces on
15 December 1980.
A first draft of the Bill is being
prepared by the Legal Department.
Drafting approval was given by the Secretary for Social Services on 23 January 1981.

Action completed.

2nd quarter of 1981
The first draft of the regulations was circulated by the Legal Department on 18 November 1980 and a meeting was held on 21 January 1981 to discuss commts thereon.
A second draft of the regulations is being prepared by the Legal Department.
