The Director of Public Works has advised against
accepting alternative qualifications to UK Chartered membership
for appointments to the professional grades in PWD. The
implications of this advice is being examined by the Civil
Service Branch. At present there are 159 vacancies of
engineers and architects in PWD.
Recruitment of Administrative & Executive Officers

Demands for Administrative and Executive Officers have
increased substantially, partly because of general expansion
but also as a result of the District Administration and
Recruitment targets for the year
regionalisation schemes.
1981 have been set at 50 Administrative Officers and 280
Executive Officers. They represent increases of 17 per cent
and 24 per cent on the present strengths of 299 Administrative
Officers and 1,157 Executive Officers.

Local recruitment is well underway.
Written tests
took place on 6 and 7 January, and over 1,300 candidates
participated.
Selection interviews will begin in mid-March.
At the same time a trawl of experienced officer in the Executive
Grade has been completed and invitation has been made to ten
officers to transfer to the Administrative Service.
