To consolidate the EPU's capacity in each of the main areas of environmental protection (water, air, noise and solid waste).
To re-title the EPU as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and to establish it as
a free-standing agency.
Recruitment is continuing to fill SEPO vacancies in Air and Noise groups. Ordering and delivery of equipment continues. Delivery taken of survey craft and remaining 2 vans for transportation of staff and equipment.
ESC approved the re-titling of the EFU to EPA and the Environmental Protection Adviser to Commissioner for Environmental Protection; the transfer of EPU posts from the GS establishment to the EPA; the permanent creation of C of EP and 4 PEPO posts. Endorsed by FC on 21.1.81. Action is therefore complete.
