Purpose
:
To determine new fees to be taken into account for grant purposes.
Progress made and present position
(b) University and Polytechnic Grants
Committee (UPCC) Grant recommendations based on a 4% growth rate per annum received, Draft Executive Council (ExCo ) memorandum circulated for comments. (c) Possible amendments to the Post-Secondary Colleges Ordinance were circulated to the Colleges for comment and further considera- tion in CRPSTE. The comments of the Colleges were received at the end of January and are being examined.
d) First round of Council for National
Academic Awards (CNAA) assessments of Baptist. and Lingnan Colleges' courses completed and formal CNAA report awaited. Shue Yan College was not assessed as no submission was received.
The University of Hong Kong adopted lower tuition fees than those which will be assumed by the Government in the calculation of grants, but applied them to all students. These fee levels are also different from those adopted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The broad principles of a revised method of calculating grants and loans to students have been agreed.
