HONG KONG: PQ'S:
STANDING COMMITTEE ON PRESSURE GROUPS; OMBUDSMAN; MATERNITY LEAVE AND DEMOCRATIC REFORM
1. I submit draft replies to the 5 PQs put down by Mr Robert Parry MP
(Labour Liverpool, Scotland Exchange) for written answer on 25 March.
The replies have been agreed with the Hong Kong Government. A delay
in the deadline for submission has been agreed with Parliamentary
Unit in view of the short notice given by Mr Parry.
2. Mr Parry takes a keen and critical interest in the Hong Kong
Government's social and administrative policies and asks large numbers
of Parliamentary Questions. These five are typical examples. Back-
ground notes on each topic are attached.
3. Mr Parry's interest in the Standing Committee on Pressure Groups
(SCOPG) stems from a supposedly leaked copy of one of SCOPG's reports
and a subsequent article in the New Statesman.
4.
The question on democratic reform follows a similar one put down
by Mr Dennis Canavan MP (Labour Stirlingshire West) for written
-
answer on 18 March. This subject has attracted Parliamentary interest.
