REGISTRY Action Taken

1. Mr Clift asked whether there has been any speculation in the local press on the identity of the next Governor of Hong Kong.

2. In the past two months, there have been two articles. One in the GIST of 22 December 1980, quoting the "Oriental Daily News" which tipped Sir Anthony Royle. The other in the SCMP of 31 January raises several possibilities, including a further extension of Sir Murray's stay in Hong Kong.
