NATIONALITY BILL:
1.
BELIZE
Please refer to Miss Brett-Rook's minute of 3 Abfal.
An extract from an Information Department background paper on Belize which covers the economy of the territory is attached.
2.
I also attach a draft contribution covering the current state of Belize's constitutional development.
3. I have no information on the numbers of Belizeans who might have the right of abode in the UK. If this information is not available to Nationality & Treaty Department it will probably be necessary to obtain it from Belmopan but in view of the present situation in Belize I would hesitate to raise this with them at this time unless it is absolutely essential.
4. As far as I am aware there has been little local reaction in Belize to the current provisions of the Nationality Bill. However you should consult Mr Jakeman in Nationality & Treaty Department on this point as it has figured in the Constitutional Conference.
