SIR RICHARD POSNETT

1.

We spoke about appointments for Sir Richard with Ministers and with the PUS.

2.

The Secretary of State is away from tonight and his office have confirmed that an appointment for Sir Richard would not be possible on this occasion. Mr Ridley's office and that of the PUS have said that they weld wish to see him. therefore made appointments as follows:

I have

FRIDAY 20 FEBRUARY

I have informed Sir Richard by telephone.

3. A talking point brief will be required by the PUS; should reach his office by 1700 on Thursday 19 February. Mr Ridley's office are content not to have a brief but Sir Richard told me that if you were providing the Minister with any notes on Bermuda following your recent visit it would be helpful if he (Sir Richard) could see a copy before the meeting.

4. Arrangements for appointments with Ministers for Governors about to travel to post seem to be falling between various different departments. I understand that neither HKGD nor Heads of Mission Section make these arrangements as a matter of course, as would be the case with Heads of Diplomatic posts. You saidthat you will be minuting to Mr Clift on this.
