Mr Clift asked for advice on Mr Deare's minute of 19 February.
2. I have discussed with Mr Hall. HKGD has never arranged calls on Ministers by Governors prior to their departure; it has in the past been done by the geographical department as part of the briefing arrangements. I have consulted POD Heads of Mission Section to enquire whether this could now be done by them as part of their new responsibilities following the Inspectors' recommend- ations. Miss Gale has confirmed that this is so as she would normally make such arrangements for Ambassadors.
