DS Officers in Hong Kong slots abroad
Relevant correspondence is attached.
Mr Rowlands (his letter of
10 April) has agreed the point in Mr Clift's letter of 29 January about
semi-permanent/permanent transfer;
he was also encouraging on the
question of officers remaining to age 60. Mr Rowlands also accepts the
principle of DS officers on trade work.
But no commitment has been given on notifying the FCO about forth-
coming postings in Hong Kong slots.
Mr Clift asked POD for nominations for Minister, Brussels, vacant
at the beginning of 1983. The following names have been submitted:
J B Weymes, HMA Tegucigalpa (born: 18.10.27) taking premature
retirement May 1981, DS4.
W J Watts,
A J Spire,
Counsellor
-
retired prematurely (born:
11.3.23).
CG Sydney (born: 14.11.21) taking premature retirement November 1981, DS3.
Personal details are attached*.
Papers also attached on Mr Crowson, Counsellor (Hong Kong Commercial
Affairs), Washington. POD are looking into the question of a successor
who would spend time in Hong Kong before assuming the Washington post
(September 1982) but do not yet have any names.
