CONDITIONS OF SERVICE FOR MARRIED FEMALE OFFICERS
1.
2.
Thank you for your letter of 1 March to Chris Green.
The answer to your question is quite simply that there is no discrimination against married female officers either in the Diplomatic Service or the Home Civil Service;
any such discrimination would be unlawful under the UK Sex Discrimination Act and these officers are entitled to all the allowances etc. that male officers get. There are some difficulties in implementing this policy when, for instance, both a man and his wife are members of the Diplomatic Service but that is an administrative one of apportionment and does not affect the principle.
