the professional knowledge possessed by university- trained social workers; social work graduates of the post-secondary colleges will be recruited as Social Work Assistant (Cadet) and on completion of their two year cadetship, may qualify for in-service appointment as ASWO;
iii) the creation of a new rank of Senior Social Work
Assistant (SSWA) to carry out bocial work tasks which require greater experience than could be expected from SWAG and which, in many cases, had previously been performed by Assistant Social Welfare Officers (ASWO);

the abolition of the Welfare Supervisor grade, whose. members previously worked exclusively in correctional
and rehabilitation institutions, and who would now be absorbed into the Social Work Assistant grade;
the introduction of revised salary scales for officers of the Welfare Asistent grade, who will be limited to work in the social security stream of the Department and involved in investigations into applications for social security and accident compensation;
to
the creation of a new Social Security Officer (SSO) grade, modelled on the structure of the Executive Officer grade, replace those existing posts in the Social Welfare Officer grade which are involved in the management and advinistration of social security schemes.
These recommendations led to the following changes
Revised salary scales for the Assistant Social Work
Officer (points 20-34 instead of 20-30) and Social Work Officer (Points 35-40 instead of 31 40) ranks to

recognize the increasing complexity in the duties and level of responsibility of these ranks. The salary increase was effective from 1 April 1979, the date on which the revised structure was accepted by Government;

and Social Work Assistant grades:-
