In order to avoid such misunderstandings, advice is frequently given to HM Forces dependents to arrange for an endorsement to be made on their passports, in the following terms before setting off on private travel :

The holder of this passport is

permitted to re-enter Hong Kong

without a visa during the period

of HER HUSBAND's assignment to the

H M FORCES in Hong Kong.

The purpose of the endorsement is to give a clear indication of passagers' status to Immigration Control Officers so that they may endorse the appropriate landing conditions on the passengers' return to Hong Kong. We have not received any feedback to suggest that this arrangement has created any difficulties for HM Forces dependents intending to travel to China.

In the absence of any further direct approach from CAPIC or any member of his staff I had concluded that the matter had now been satisfactorily resolved; I do not propose to take any further action unless CAPIC approaches me direct or responds to our earlier suggestion of a meeting.
