On receipt of the petition, the Director of Immigration has reviewed the case, looking particularly for humanitarian grounds which might warrant exceptional consideration, but has found none.

Although the petitioner has given no reason for taking up residence here, the motive appears to be one of personal convenience.
apparently believes that possession of a Chinese exit permit entitles him to reside here as if he were an immigrant from China. This is not so. Increasing numbers of overseas Chinese now visit China and it would establish a dangerous precedent if
were allowed to remain here permanently after completing his visit to China. Accordingly the Director recommends that the objection be disallowed.

Members will be asked to advise, under section 53 of the Immigration Ordinance (Chapter 115), whether the decision of the Director of Immigration to grant only a short extension of stay to
