RULES OF ENGAGEMENT DURING MARITIME OPERATIONS

INTRODUCTION

1.

The following Maritime Rules of Engagement are submitted

for consideration by MOCOG at the meeting on 29th May 1980.

CONCEPT OF RULES

is that :-

(a)

The over-riding concept of the proposed Rules at Annex 'A'

Only the minimum force necessary to achieve the

object in view may be used and once the object

has been attained the use of force must cease.

(b) All maritime forces, whether Police, RN or Army,

may use firearms provided they are used in accordance

with the Rules in Annex 'A', if no other means is

sufficient to prevent the death or serious injury

(c)

of themselves, or those they are protecting.

All forces should have, as far as possible, the same

powers and the same Rules.
