Dear Mrs. Thatcher;

I was concerned by today's news that Britain is to take new measures to deter refugees from China from escaping to Hong Kong.
Immediately I recalled the image of all those refugees from Vietnam who were accepted by the West and brought to, among other places, Great
Britain.
Could you please explain why, even at that time, escapees from China were being sent back
and why these new measures are considered necessary in view of this apparent inconsistency.
I note also that the government of
W.Germany today welcomed two refugees from East Germany.
Yours Faithfully,
A. Laurence,
Andrew Lawrence.
