Shots Fired in Mirs Bay, Chinese Waters Early in the Morning.
A Speed Boat for the Smuggling of Illegal Immigrants was
Fired at. Two Snake Heads Died and One Escaped by Plunging

At an interview with our reporter, an Officer of the Shenzhen
Public Security Bureau said : At about 1a.m. this morning, a speed boat
from Hong Kong to carry illegal immigrants out of the country was found in Chinese Waters in the vicinity of Mirs Bay. The authorities gave it
warning in vain and was forced to fire at it. Cadres had been sent to
the scene of the incident to carry out observation and investigate the
matter.
According to news disclosed by the Hong Kong Government Information Service last night: A 28 year old male with gun shot wound arrived at United Christian Hospital under escort at noon to-day (Sunday) and he was later transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital........ said he boarded a speed boat with two friends and while they were at Mirs Bay near Ping Chau, a Chinese gunboat suddenly fired at them. His two friends were hit while he himself jumped into the water and swam to Ping Chau.
The Police is investigating the incident.
Another source of information said between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. yesterday, two of the three people who boarded a speed boat and tried to help illegal immigrants from the inland to escape were shot dead by the soldiers patrolling Mirs Bay near Ping Chau while the other one jumped into the water and escaped. The speed boat capable of operating at 40-odd nautical miles per hour was also detaimed by the inland (authorities),
it said.
