With the approval of Shenzhen municipal people's procuratorate, the public security organs announced at the rally the arrest of four criminals, including criminal
who had illegally emigrated; and criminal
who had aided and abetted other illegal emigrants. It was also announced that eight illegal emigrants were doing forced labour. Two were charged with illegal emigration and their crimes were established. Because they voluntarily surrendered to the public security organs, made a clean breast of their crimes and really repented, the public security organ announced that they would be absolved from any punishment.
Day and night patrols in Anhui A certain PLA unit stationed in Bengbu municipality has recently sent out night patrols to help maintain social order in the municipality. Huaiyuan county people's armed forces department has educated the county's militia in the seven laws and mobilized them to maintain social order in the urban areas in close co-ordination with public security departments. The department has dispatched militiamen to tell the people not to gamble and stop gambling. Work of Peking court's economic section The economic section under the Peking intermediate people's court has begun working. Its responsibilities include: Disputes on contracts between Chinese economic departments and between Chinese economic enter- prises; cases filed by the people's procuratorates against those accused of economic sabotage; and foreign trade, maritime affairs, insurance and Chinese-foreign joint ventures. A spokesman for the court said: "We try our best to settle disputes between Chinese enterprises through mediation, to the satisfaction of both plaintiff and defendant. Court mediation should work in most cases because ours is a socialist country and there are no conflicts of fundamental interests between different departments and different enterprises." Retired worker murdered by thief in timber yard Peking municipal people's government recently made a decision to confer the title of revolutionary martyr on Sun Junchao, a retired worker. On 18th May 1979, Sun Junchao entered a fight with four people trying to steal lumber from the municipal gardening and landscape bureau and was hit on the head by one of the criminals. Shanghai gold speculators arrested A public security sub-bureau in Shanghai recently arrested criminals who smuggled 50 wrist-watches and four tape-recorders, worth 10,000 yuan, from Shantou, Guangdong. Last November, a Shanghai doctor confessed that he had illegally sold 20 taels of gold at 200 yuan per tael. As the gold-mongers beat him up in an attempt to force him to sell them more gold, the doctor felt his life endangered and gave himself up to the authorities. A prompt investigation revealed that two gangs from Shantou finally purchased the gold at the price of 280 yuan per tael. Further investigations revealed that these gangsters smuggled watches and tape-recorders into Shanghai, sold them at high prices and bought the gold with their illegal profits.
