(d) was registered, in pursuance of section 8(2) or section

12(7) of the 1948 Act by a High Commissioner in an independent Commonwealth country, but only if the effect of such registration would (under the transitional

provisions of the Bill) have resulted in his becoming a

BDT.

7.84 It is intended that in future any person who has renounced citizenship of the BDT because he could not have acquired or retaine. another citizenship without renouncing, is to be entitled to be registered by the Secretary of State as a citizen of the BDT on one occasion only. On registration he is to be regarded for the purposes of the Bill as a citizen of the EDT by birth in a

dependency if he originally acquired it by reason of such tirin.

A person who has previously resumed citizenship of the United Fingdon and Colonies under the 1964 Act or under section.4(2) of the Cyprus Act 1960 (c.52) should not for this purpose be regarded

as having used up his entitlement.

7.37 The Secretary of State is to have a discretionary power to register as a citizen of the DT any person who has renounced

citizenship of the EDT whatever the reason for the renunciation.
