by all those who are at present citizens of the United Kingdom and Colonies but who do not become British Citizens or Citizens of the British Dependent Territories.

5. As a result of this, the reference to citizenship or citizens of the United Kingdom and Colonies in all existing legislation will need to be converted in terms of the new citizenships by the Bill. I should be grateful, therefore, if you would also arrange for your Department to examine any legislation, including subordinate legislation, for which it is responsible which contains such references, and let us have details of the legislation concerned, including a brief explanation of the purpose, and indicating whether this should in future be expressed in terms of all three citizenships, or any one or two of them. If other than all three citizenships, I should be grateful for a brief explanation of the reason.

6.

The preparation of the Bill is at a fairly advanced stage, and I am afraid must therefore ask you to be kind enough to reply on both aspects of this letter by Tuesday 4th November. Replies should be sent to Mr. P. D. Brown, N.L.R.U. Immigration and Nationality Department, Lunar House, Wellesley Road, Croydon CRŷ 23Y. Wil replies may be telephoned to, and any requests for further information etc. obtaine from, Mr. Brown on 01 686-2575 Ext. 4576.

7. A copy of this letter goes to the Parliamentary Clerk of all government departments.

Yours sincerely,

h

J. G. DALY
