The Home Office proposed that a British Citizen who voluntarily acquired another citizenship, including citizenship of a Commonwealth country, would automatically lose his British citizenship, and that a Commonwealth or foreign citizen who wished to acquire British citizenship would be required to renounce his former citizenship. have pointed out to the Home Office that there could be a considerable
workload on the FCO in policing any such provision and that failure to police it could bring this section of the law and the law in general into disrepute. We doubt the value or need for such a provision in any event. We believe that the Home Office now question it themselves, and they have said that they are reconsidering.
