These provisions are based on those which are presently contained in the Criminal Procedure Ordinance. For clarity, they are now contained in a separate section with child destruction and concealment of the fact of the birth of a child being added as alternative offences.

Clause 6 of the bill repeals and replaces section 48 of the principal Ordinance with the object of:
(a) omitting the existing proviso which is no longer required,
the matter of alternative conviction to which it relates having been provided for in new section 47D; and
(b) making the text clearer without altering its effect.
