Note: The comparatively high figures for Thailand partly reflect the fact that some countries prefer to take boat refugees rather than land refugees (and this table does not, of course, take into account the huge number of land refugees in Thailand): for Singapore the percentages are virtually meaningless since refugees are only allowed to stay in Singapore after a guarantee of resettle- ment has been received. The figures therefore reflect rescues at sea by ships of maritime countries.
