a copy of our savinggram no 2 to Bonn which gives statistics for arrivals in and resettlement from countries of first asylum in the Region up to 1 January 1980 (Table 1) and the cummulative totals of resettlement of refugees from the region (Table 2).

2. Of the 10,000 Vietnamese refugees HMG undertook to resettle at the Geneva Conference last year approximately 3,500 have so far arrived in the UK.

HMG undertook at the Geneva Conference to contribute £5 million to the UNHCR programme for Vietnamese Refugees.
4. It is not possible to identify exactly how much the Vietnamese refugees have cost the Hong Kong Government but the direct identifiable cost so far is the $72 million.
