3. Imagawa said that 682 refugees had so far been accepted for resettlement, of whom 260 were already in Japan. I took the opportunity to give him the latest figures for boat refugees in Hong Kong contained in Hong Kong telno 729 of 5 June. He said that a mission had been in Hong Kong very recently to re-interview some existing candidates for resettlement in Japan. They would be sending another mission to Hong Kong and Thailand in August or September to seek new candidates.
