Mr Ian Wrigglesworth (Teesside, Thornaby): To ask the Lord Privy Seal, how many Vietnamese refugees are still resident in Hong Kong; and when it is now expected that they will be resettled.

On the 20th of May there were 39,695 Vietnamese refugees in

Hong Kong awaiting resettlement.

At a projected rate of

3,000 persons per month, and provided that there is no increase

in the average of 10. new arrivals a day since the 1st of January

1980, it will take until August 1981 to resettle them elsewhere.
