Vietnamese Refugees in Hong Kong

1.

73,692 Vietnamese boat refugees were allowed to land temporarily

in Hong Kong during 1979 and 7,436 so far this year; 24,377

Vietnamese refugees from Hong Kong were resettled in 1979 by UNHCR

in countries of permanent settlement, and a further 22,196 up to

23 July this year.

2. The British Government have undertaken to accept a total of

11,000 of these refugees for resettlement in the UK.

Last year

3,897 were resettled in this country; it is hoped to complete the

full commitment by not later than the end of the 1980-81 financial

year.
