The numbers under detention represents the number of Vietnamese

Refugees who have been settled in China before coming to Hong Kong

illegally.

2. 10,084 refugees have arrived since 1st January, 1980. The increase

of 853 since 19th August is due to the arrival of fourteen small

boats.

3. UNHCR has resettled 24,830 refugees since 1st January of which 572

in the past week.
