Three colleges have been approved for registration under the Post Secondary Colleges Ordinance, the Hong Kong Baptist College in 1970, the Hong Kong Shue Yan College in 1976 and Lingnan College in 1978.

Starting from September 1979, the" Hong Kong Baptist College and Lingnan College have re-structured their courses into the 2-2-1 system (two-year form six courses, two-year post form six courses and one-year end-on courses) as a condition of increased Government financial assistance.
Adult Education

A wide range of educational opportunities for mature students is available in Hong Kong under the auspices of the Education Department, the Extra-Mural Departments of the universities and a number of private institutions. There are plans to improve the Education Department's own service and to support on a project basis certain retrieval general education courses run by non-profit-making voluntary organisations.
