CHILD LABOUR IN HONG KONG
1. Please refer to David Snoxell's letter of 31 March to Robin Chatterjie about the need to prepare material for the Sub-Commission on Slavery meeting in August (13-15 in Geneva), and with which he enclosed the formal notification from the UN (their letter G/SO 252/2 (4-1)) dated 26 March) concerning HMG's comments on the incidence of child labour in Hong Kong.

2. We discussed the question of our response with HK&GD and agreed that the most sensible course was for us to give Hong Kong the opportunity to reply to the charges contained in the Anti-Slavery Society's Monograph. Although there has been some delay in Hong Kong providing a suitably balanced statement we are now able to forward our reply for presentation to the Sub-Commission.
3. If you agree perhaps you would now forward this to the Secretariat as you see fit.
