I wish the Hong Kong Government would set an example to find a solution in encouraging mothers either to be a part-time or a full-time mother when their children are too young to be apart from them, in order to enable private enterprises to follow the same policy. After all, useful, well-adjusted citizens are the most valuable possessions a country has, and good mother-care during early childhood is the surest way to provide them.

An exceedingly large number of part-time nurses are employed in England, and I very much wish the Hong Kong Government will follow their footstep. There will naturally be some technical problems in the proposed scheme, but I have no reason to believe that they cannot be overcome.

I have written to the Director of Medical and Health Department in Hong Kong, the Association of Government Nursing Staff and the Secretary for the Civil Service, but they appear to be pathetic. No action has been taken yet.

I should therefore be extremely grateful if you could give your support to the above proposal

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours truly;

"Lew
