1980 to Martin Rowlands, about Mrs. H. Law's letter to the Prime Minister on the subject of employment of housewives as Government nurses on a part-time basis, and our interim reply of 13 November 1980.
Mrs. Law also wrote to us and the Director of Medical and Health Services on the same subject on 19 August 1980. Her letters were acknowledged by us and the Director on 3 and 22 September 1980 respectively.
The question of employing nurses on a part- time basis in the Government Nursing Service has been under consideration since March 1980. Since then, the Director of Medical and Health Services has carried out a feasibility study and has advised that he has no objection in principle to the proposal. However, detailed arrangements have to be worked out. These have proved to be quite complicated, but it is hoped that they can be resolved in the near future.
Yours sincerely,
(H.S. Grewal )
for Secretary for the Civil Service
A.W. Friar, Esq.,
