CATHAY AND CALEDONIAN : OSWALD CHEUNG'S SPECIAL PLEADING

ANGEL BLUCK TO THE RESCUE (ALL FOOLS' DAY ) !

April 1, 1930

When Legislative Councillor Oswald Cheung stands up in the Legislative Council, one expects that, since this honourable gentleman is known to have a legal back- ground, pearls of wisdom would drop like gentle rain upon that august assembly.

It is with regret that TARGET reports that the only pearls that were noted at last week's Legco Meeting were those around the necks of certain ladies who took the trouble to follow the proceedings.

'

EN

Oswald Cheung said he was surprised that the British Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) appeared to have forgotten' reciprocity in the matter of landing rights, and that instead of reciprocating by granting a licence to Cathay Pacific, either with the addition of British Caledonian or to its exclusion, they have added a second British carrier to the route ទូ

T

From a man who is T

man who is learned in the law and is a Queen's Counsel, this statement sounds rather surprising since it is pre-assuming :

(a) That Cathay Pacific is not a British airline

;

reciprocity

(b) That the British Government did not consider

; and,

(c) That reciprocity, if it were to be considered at all,applied in the case of a territory which has the legal status of a fully dependent British Colony.

Tut! Tut! Mr Cheung You haven't done your homework on any of the above points... or possibly you have been carried away by your own powers of advocacy ?
