CPA, British Caledonian and Laker all applied to operate an extra air route between hK and London to supplement the insufficient services provided by British Airways. Later, Laker was phased out. Many people then thought that both CPA and Caledonian would be awarded the route. But fimlly, permission was granted to British

Caledonian only.

#

CPA was upset and people were surprised. As far as experience is concerned, CPA is a veteran, while British Caledonian is only an airline operating chartered flights. There is already one British airline enjoying the monopoly of flying between HK and London,

and now another British company is coming up to snatch its share.

M

e fact is that HK will gain nothing from the reciprocity in trade. There is only one explanation to the BCAA's decision partiality.

CPA's operation of the HK/London route will help boost HK's tourism of, at least be able to maintain air services between the two cities when British Airways is on strike or cut of service for some other reasons. We believe that CP's appeal will gain the

support of the HK public.
