Explanatory Note
The Merchant Shipping (Fees) Regulations
contain a licence fee payable in respect of floating
dry docks and floating workshops (Class VII vessels)
that tend to remain stationary in the waters of Hong
Kong. The fee is $1,100 for every 100 net registered
tons or part thereof. However, some of these Class VII
vessels occupy the sea bed under a lease, the terms of
which involves a rental for such occupation. These
regulations accordingly prescribe an appropriately
reduced licence fee for this type of Class VII vessels,
which takes into account the rental paid for the
occupation of the sea bed.
