Australia and New Zealand however reserved their positions

with regard to points (b) and (c) of the resolution claiming that they had little knowledge about them.

Regarding (a), the origional intention of the delegates was to further recommend that pending the determination and enforcement of such Asian rate, the ITF should not implement other rates on the Asian affiliates. However, the General Secretary advised against committment on paper in such a way as ship owners would certainly take advantage of the situation and play one union against another.

In response of his advice, the delegates agreed that this should be dropped on the assurance from Nr. ewis that the Secretariat would put on record that the Asian affiliates did not wish other wage rates to be imposed on them.

Generally speaking, it was a fruitful conference for the ITF and its Asian affiliates. Never before had the Asian affiliates been

so united in voicing their objections to ITF policies and never before had the ITF Secretariat been so successful in measuring the sensitivities of its Asian brothers towards its objectionable policies in the region. The immediate result of this Conference seems to be that pending the outcome of the Fair Fractices Committee "eeting which would be held in May, the ITF Campaign against FUC vessels would likely to be held in abeyance.
