THE ROAD TRAFFIC (AMENDMENT) ORDINANCE 1980

This Ordinance increases the powers of the courts under section 29 of the principal Ordinance to deal with owners and persons in charge of vehicles who withhold information as to the identity of a driver who is suspected of an offence.

2. By new subsection (5A)(a) of section 29, the withholding of such information may result in disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence. And, in fixing sentence for an offence under section 29 the court is required, by paragraph (b) of subsection (5A) to take account of the facts of the reported offence.

Before the Governor assented to the Bill in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty, the Attorney General advised that he could properly do so.
