If Maneb is to be classified as Category 6 Dangerous Goods, then it will be necessary to specify in Regulation 139 of the Dangerous Goods (General) Regulations certain conditions for its storage, conveyance and packaging, and the maximum quantities which may be stored without a licence. These matters have been considered by the Dangerous Goods Standing Committee, and the proposals contained in the Dangerous Goods (General) (Amendment) Regulations 1980 (Annex B) reflect its advice.

As the licensing authority for Category 6 Dangerous Goods, the Director of Fire Services will be responsible for the enforcement of the proposed new Regulations, for which the commencement date will be 1st June 1980.

The proposed amendments will not be of general interest. Director of Agriculture and Fisheries will advise pesticide users and retailers of the effects of the new legislation and the reasons for its introduction. The maximum quantity exempted from the licensing provision (i. e. 50 lbs) is sufficient to meet the needs of most users.
