Dear Mr clift,
Guangdong Nuclear and SLK
See 88
We spoke briefly about a letter which Gordon Manzie intends to give Sir Lawrence Kadoorie. This would place on record the impression we would like SLK to have rather than rely on him adequately to import the flavour of his discussions here this week.
We would not envisage the letter being handed to anyone else and perhaps we should say so in the text. However with an Executive Committee meeting at the end of August, CLP will have to make some statement on the results of the visit and the letter provides phrases which might be suitable and certainly preferable to letting Walter Marshall or even Bill Stones ad lib.
We will seek our Secretary of State's agreement to such a letter once you and the others to whom I am copying this have kindly let me have any comments. We ought perhaps also to clear if with the PM's office since it takes her name in vain I would appreciate your views.
I am copying this to Robert Alston JNU, John Everand FED, and Barbara Parkin Department of Energy.
Yours sincerely
Richard Brom
