A preliminary meeting was held in Hong Kong on 20th May to discuss the CLP attitude regarding the 3 sites already proposed by the KEC. In addition detailed consideration was given to :

a)

technical information likely to be required by both sides

b) the final format of the feasibility report.

In view of the limited timescale, emphasis was placed on the need to concentrate on feasibility aspects and avoid undertaking work which might more appropriately be included in the design phase.

On 21st May the party went to Gwangdong and met the KEC team consisting of:

The discussions were very detailed and occupied the afternoon of 21st, the 22nd including a late evening session and the 23rd till 5 p.m., when the CLP party left for the return flight to Hong Kong.

As a result of the meetings a detailed report format was agreed together with timescales; responsibilities for preparation of the various sections were also allocated. Much of the preparation of the various sections of the final report can be based on existing information but some areas, particularly seismology and geology need further attention.

A paper summarising progress to date and recommending approval of expenditure to allow this extra work to proceed was prepared for submission to the Executive Committee meeting on 26/27th May.
