Oil Products in significant use in Hong Kong other than Fuel Oil, Gas

Oil and Naphtha

(a) Jet A/Kerosene

Unlike the other oil products discussed above, Jet A/Kero requires special storage procedures as the stock has to be regularly turned around. But in any case, Jet A/ Kero is used exclusively by the airline companies for travel

abroad. But the Oil Policy Committee would like the possibility

of strategic reserve to be considered in the near future.

(b) Petrol (Mogas)

Petrol is used largely by private motorists. amount imported into Hong Kong is relatively small and in the case of extreme shortage, its use could be curtailed. forms of transport are available to the private motorist, though admittedly many of them also rely upon oil in one form or

another for motive power.

(c) Diesel fuel

Diesel fuel is used by large ships. The amount imported is comparatively insignificant and most of what is imported is for bunkering purposes, not for internal consumption.

(a) Kerosene

Kerosene is used extensively, mainly for cooking.

Substitutes are available in the form of l.p.g. 'town gas'

and electricity, although all of these are more expensive than Kerosene. Any shortage would cause hardship to some

sectors of the population but imports are not large and no shortage has been experienced in the past.
