When we spoke on the telephone the other day and I agreed that I would, if at all possible, come to your meeting on Friday with Griffiths, we also agreed that it would be helpful if I could, before then, get some indication (however tentative) of the Attorney-General's views on the matters which we are to discuss.
I think that
I have, accordingly, put a minute to him today. it is unlikely that he will be able to deal with it in time for me to tell you before the meeting what his reactions are but I hope at least to be able to speak at the meeting with the benefit of a preliminary indication of his views.
It occurs to me that you might find it helpful to see the terms in which I have put thematter to the Attorney-General and I therefore enclose a copy of my minute to him. If you think that it would be helpful for Griffiths also to see it, I have no objections to that. You will understand, of course, that it represents only my own views and fairly tentative views at that and in no way commits the Attorney-General.
