SECRETARY OF STATE'S VISIT TO THE FAR EAST

1.

I asked Sir Murray MacLehose what he thought should be the main items in the Secretary of State's visit to Hong Kong. He suggested:

a)

A speech about UK/Hong Kong relations (including

current bilateral issues) with encouraging remarks about the Hong Kong economy;

Visits to the Garrison and the. Police;

b)

c)

A meeting with EXCO;

2.

d)

e)

(Possibly) a meal to meet Unofficials including

those from LEGCO;

Helicopter trip tọ, eg, New Territories developments.

}

He has already written to the Private Secretary on 9 July (copied to you) saying that he would be delighted to look after the Secretary of State for a free day on Sunday, 28 September. He would suggest details later but he could certainly guarantee a relaxing time.
