We discussed Mr McLaren's submissio
mission of 22 July.
Itinerary
Lord Carrington wishes to spend Sunday 28 September in Hong Kong. So far as possible this should be a day of rest.
Of the options for visits outside Peking, Lord Carrington prefers Xian.
Culture
рее
13
Lord and Lady Carrington's preference in China is for gymnastics/acrobatics, if available. They will not wish to have to sit through a cultural evening of immense length.
Lady Carrington
Lady Carrington is content with the general suggestions for her programme. In Hong Kong she would like to see public housing.
Speeches, Press Conferences etc
We agreed that you would submit by 15 September a list of all occasions on which Lord Carrington will have to speak, with full background information and texts/notes as appropriate.
Briefing
Briefing, arranged in separate folders as for the Latin American tour, should reach this office (three sets) by the close on Thursday 18 September. Separate briefing should be submitted for Lady Carrington.
Programme
We should avoid packing the programme too tightly. Lord Carrington should be given periods during the day when he can prepare for speeches and press conferences, deal with paper from London, talk to the Ambassador, take a breather etc. would be helpful if the posts could so arrange calls as to minimise the time spent going to and fro by car.
