There was also a meeting with officials scheduled for 0900
on 29 September to discuss Hong Kong/China relations. The Governor
has suggested that it either be included in the meeting on the
morning of 27 September or be taken sometime on Sunday. This can be
decided in the light of the time left over, if any, from the
discussion of UK/Hong Kong issues. Since the Secretary of State's
last visit to the territory was concerned with the Vietnamese
refugee problem (which is still very much a live issue in Hong Kong)
it might seem odd if he were not to go ahead with the brief visit
on Sunday morning in order to allow time for a discussion with
officials on Hong Kong/China issues. The Sunday programme is, in
any case, now somewhat lighter with the dropping of the Police
dinner and such a meeting could probably be arranged for later
that day.
7. The Governor has also made some suggestions for Lady Carrington's
33 programme (Hong Kong telegram No 1154). He suggests that Saturday
morning be left free until about noon when Lady Carrington joins the
Secretary of State for the rest of that day's programme.
If Lady
Carrington would like to do more in the morning, the Governor has
suggested a visit to a public housing estate or a garden.

The dinner with the Unofficial Members of the Executive and
Legislative Councils will be stag. The alternatives suggested by
the Governor are a small informal and early dinner either at
Government House or elsewhere or a tray in her room.
9. The Governor has suggested that Lady Carrington might like
