He has now been dealing with Hong Kong matters for 18 months and has not yet gone there. The Hong Kong Government are very keen that he should do so in order to see this singular and successful economy at first hand. A visit by Mr Broadbent would, I am sure, be very helpful to this department in terms of the advice which we receive from him and we strongly support the idea. I understand that he would like to go for a maximum of 2 weeks at the end of April or the beginning of May.
5. I would be grateful for your views on these proposals. Mr Broadbent in particular needs to make firm arrangements fairly soon.
