You asked for Information on the five replacement naval patrol craft. Tenders were invited for 4 November, covering construction both of all five in the UK and of the first one here, with the other four being built in Hong Kong. Three tenders were received and it looks as if there is a marginal financial advantage in their all being built here. The other consideration is that at least one of the shipyards will go bankrupt if it does not get the order. There is someone from MOD (Navy) in Hong Kong at the moment dis- cussing this with the Hong Kong Government.

You also wanted to be reminded to ask Sir Jack Cater when we would receive a further submission on Mr Ho's letter written on behalf of the local Administrative Officers.
