PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITY

Line to take

BOTB support is provided for business missions and specialised exhibitions (see lists attached). The lack of exhibition halls. severely restricts promotional activity: the

Secretary of State will wish to offer encouragement to the steps that are being

taken to remedy this situation.

Brief

BOTB supported missions involving about 180 people a year, account for a very small proportion of the total number of British businessmen visiting Hong Kong. Mission

participants are encouraged to undertake careful planning and preparation.

The last major exhibition staged by BOTB was an all-British Industrial Exhibition, in March 1978. It was held in Kowloon Railway Station, a venue not longer available.

The Hong Kong Government has made funds available for a Study to ascertain the demand

for, and viability of, a new exhibition centre. A consortium of British consultants

has been appointed to complete the Study by about the end of 1979.
