SECRETARY OF STATE'S VISIT TO THE FAR EAST

During his visit to the Far East the Secretary of State will be making three major speeches. You may wish to see copies of the texts as they now stand.

2. In Japan he will deal with trading relations and particularly the desirability of the interchange of technology and investment; this speech is more or less in final form now. In Korea he will discuss the implications of trade with the NICs; the present text is probably all right for release in the UK but may need some toning down for delivery in Seoul; it is still subject to amendment in the light of the Embassy's advice and of any additions taken from the Economist Intelligent Unit Report published today. In Hong Kong he will speak on "Developments in British Trade" significant statement of the Government's general trade policy; this text is also more or less final.

3. Subject to amendments made en route, these speeches will all be released to the Press in London as well as locally.
